WBCA Top 25 Team Honor Roll

CHICAGO – After making its 10th straight NCAA Tournament appearance in 2011-12, the DePaul women’s basketball program was once again named to the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll. With a 3.604 cumulative team grade-point average, the Blue Demons ranked No. 3 on the list for the second consecutive year.

The women’s basketball squad at DePaul has set new GPA standards in each of the past three seasons. The Blue Demons’ 3.604 team GPA—up from 3.582 in 2011—became the program’s best-ever cumulative average. After ranking No. 8 in 2010 with a 3.455 GPA, the Blue Demons upped their position to a then-best 3.582 GPA and No.3 ranking before topping their GPA again in 2012.

As the No. 3 program academically, the Blue Demons came in just behind fellow tournament teams Green Bay and South Dakota State. Green Bay holds the top spot at 3.616 while South Dakota State ranks second with a 3.61 team GPA. All three programs earned berths to the NCAA Tournament, with Green Bay, like DePaul, reaching the second round.

The WBCA Academic Top 25 annually recognizes NCAA Divisions I, II and III; NAIA; and junior/community college women's basketball teams across the nation that carry the highest combined grade point averages (GPAs) inclusive of all student-athletes on their rosters for the entire season. The 2011-12 season is the 17th in which the WBCA has produced the honor rolls. The WBCA Academic Poll dates back to the 1997-98 season while DePaul has appeared in eight of those polls, including six of the last seven.

The Blue Demons claimed the highest team GPA among all BIG EAST Conference schools for the fifth consecutive season and are the only BIG EAST Conference team in the poll.  DePaul is also the only program from the state of Illinois.
