WBCA Team Academic Top 25 Honor Roll

CHICAGO - After making its 11th straight NCAA Tournament appearance in 2012-13, the DePaul women's basketball program was once again named to the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll. With a program-best 3.625 cumulative team grade-point average, the Blue Demons tied for second on the honor roll list with St. Francis (N.Y.).  Utah Valley topped the Academic Team Honor Roll with its 3.639 GPA.

With an emphasis of winning on the court and in the classroom, the women's basketball team has made a habit of setting a program-high GPA in each of the last four seasons.  The Blue Demons' 3.625--up from 3.604 a season ago and up from 3.582 in 2011-- continue to raise their academic standards from season to season.  The Blue Demons' No. 2 ranking is also a program best after ranking third the last two seasons.  DePaul broke into the top 10 in 2010 with a 3.455 GPA.

Along with the distinction of their No. 2 ranking, the Blue Demons are one of just two programs to have gone to the NCAA Tournament and be ranked in the Academic Top 25.  South Dakota State, which ranked 13th, also made an appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 2013.

The WBCA Academic Top 25 annually recognizes NCAA Divisions I, II and III; NAIA; and junior/community college women's basketball teams across the nation that carry the highest combined grade point averages (GPAs) inclusive of all student-athletes on their rosters for the entire season. The 2012-13 season is the 18th in which the WBCA has produced the honor rolls. The WBCA Academic Poll dates back to the 1997-98 season while DePaul has appeared in nine of those polls.  The Blue Demons have appeared in seven of the last eight polls and have been ranked in the top 10 the last four.

The Blue Demons claimed the highest team GPA among all BIG EAST Conference schools for the sixth consecutive season and are the only BIG EAST Conference team in the poll.  DePaul is also the only program from the state of Illinois.
