Aug. 12, 2010
CHICAGO - DePaul senior guard, Deirdre Naughton recently sat down and previewed women's basketball's upcoming trip to France as well the NCAA granting her at sixth year of eligibility. The Blue Demons embark on the Saint Vincent DePaul trail, Aug. 14-24 - traveling to Paris, Normandy, Perpignan, Nice and Monaco.
DePaul is slated to play four exhibition games while overseas against some of the best professional and clubs teams in France. In preparation for departure, the Blue Demons attended a Summer Session II class to learn about Saint Vincent DePaul as well as began practice on Aug. 1.
Different student-athletes over the next month will blog about the team's preparations, class, practice and eventually their time in France. Check back to see photos, blogs and game recaps.
Hey Blue Demon Fans,
I hope everyone is having a great summer!! I have to say that my summer has been such a dream. It's been dedicated to R &R (rehab and relaxation!). Its been a long seven months since my knee surgery, but this summer has made it all worth it. I got to enjoy my first real cardio sessions taking runs on the beach and swimming in Lake Michigan. If I wasn't on the beach or at the pool you could find me still sneaking in New Trier's gym. As dreamy as all that sounds, the best part of my summer came this week when I found out I would be returning for a sixth year and be back in a DePaul uniform again! Trust me when they say "you don't know what you have until it's gone." However, in my case I got to experience it all- losing it and getting it all back again. I couldn't be happier right now fº
Now onto the fun stuff, we're going to France in two days!!! The whole team is so excited to finally get there. Since we are playing games in France, we are allowed to have real practices. I have to say, I have been very impressed by everyone so far. Everyone came back in shape and clearly has been working on their games. I have to give a shout out to Jasmine Penny, who is not only our lone freshman but has only had a couple weeks of college lifting and conditioning and is definitely holding her own in her first real college practices.
As I said before, we are so excited to get over to France, but as we all know packing is not a girl's easiest task. Not only are we busy with basketball, school, and lifting, but I am also choosing what shoes to wear, what dresses to bring, and what hair products to leave behind. Nonetheless, visiting Paris, Normandy, and rumors of the French Riveria make the stresses of packing go away and the excitement builds. This experience is going to be a once in a lifetime opportunity and to be able to share with our team, who is so close, makes it that much more special! Stayed tuned for more France reports.
