Bonjour!!

It was a great day in Paris! The day was filled with wonderful tours, led by DePaul University’s very own, Father Ed Udovic. As Brooke Schulte mentioned in a previous blog, the team took a class together to learn about the life of Saint Vincent de Paul. Father Udovic taught our team the class in Lincoln Park, met us in Paris and has been a fantastic tour guide! He know a lot about Saint Vincent de Paul’s life and the history of France and continues to enlighten us with his knowledge since we have arrived in Paris.

Today Father Udovic took us to the Congregation of the Mission, which includes a magnificent chapel with Vincent’s reliquary. Additionally, attached to the chapel is a Vincentian museum, which contains actual artifacts from his life; for example Vincent’s cloak and slippers are located in the museum. Following the Congregation of the Mission, we walked around the corner to the Daughters of Charity home. As we learned in class, Saint Vincent de Paul and Louise de Merillac founded the Daughters of Charity. Additionally throughout the day we visited St. Sulpice, which was an enormous church in Paris and had lunch at A La Petite Chaise, which is the oldest restaurant in Paris, with delicious food.

Following lunch, we made our final tour stop for the day at Les Invalides/Musee de l’Arme. This building, which is now a museum, opened in 1676 and served as a hospital and retirement home for war veterans. Also where Napoleon Bonaparte is buried. Father Udovic did a magnificent job educating and refreshing our memories about Vincent’s life and French history.

However, to me, the most exciting part of the day was that we were finally able to play a game! After having numerous practices throughout the summer, tonight was the finally the day we were able to display our hard work throughout the summer. Everyone played and did an awesome job. We won the game 88-59 and Britt Hrynko won game MVP! The team looked great and I can already tell we are going to have a great season! Tune in tomorrow for another blog and to hear how our second game went!

Au Revoir,
