CHICAGO – Highlighted by nine home contests, a trip to the U.S. Virgin Islands and Rupp Arena, DePaul head women’s basketball coach Doug Bruno announced his team’s 2012-13 non-conference schedule on Wednesday.

"I am very excited about the challenge presented by this year's non-conference schedule,” Bruno said.  “In order to be prepared for ‘The Beast’ that is the BIG EAST, we must challenge ourselves in the difficulty of our non-conference schedule.”

Commenting on his team’s high degree of difficulty, Bruno added, “of our 14 non-BIG EAST opponents -- six competed in last year's NCAA Tournament and three teams played in the WNIT.”

"Additionally, what makes this schedule so treacherous are the exceptionally tough perennial NCAA Tournament teams like -- Dayton, Florida Gulf Coast, Princeton, and Hampton. These teams can flat out play. Then we come back after Christmas against an Oral Roberts squad, who won 20 games last season on its way to the WNIT."

The Blue Demons tip their 2012 season on Nov. 9 when it hosts the Maggie Dixon Classic.  DePaul opens its season against Nicholls State and will play either Mississippi Valley State or Dayton on Saturday.   Friday’s game is part of a basketball tripleheader at McGrath-Phillips Arena. Mississippi Valley State and Dayton are slated to play first, followed by the Blue Demon women, while DePaul’s men’s team is scheduled to close out the evening against UC-Riverside.

With the Maggie Dixon Classic in the books, DePaul hosts Howard (Nov. 17) and Yale (Nov. 19) before jetting off to the Virgin Islands for the Paradise Jam, Nov. 22-24.

During the Thanksgiving tournament the Blue Demons are scheduled to play Florida Gulf Coast, Hampton and South Carolina.

Returning to the mainland, DePaul hosts Chicagoland rival Northwestern on Dec. 2 before traveling to Kentucky.

“Kentucky at Rupp Arena will be a monster game,” Bruno said of his impending game with the SEC Tournament semifinalist a year ago.

“Kentucky was one game away from the NCAA Final Four last season and will be ranked in the top five in the nation. It will also be great for our All-American candidate, Anna Martin to return home to Lexington.”

"As if the NCAA Tournament teams are not enough, we also 'bring it on' and 'lace 'em up' against so many of our quality local opponents,” Bruno said.  The Blue Demons are set to play three-straight local rivals – Milwaukee (Dec. 11) and Northern Illinois (Dec. 15) at McGrath-Phillips Arena before a Dec. 18 trip to Loyola-Chicago.

DePaul closes the book on 2012 by hosting Princeton on Dec. 21 and Oral Roberts on Dec. 28.

"When the dust settles at the end of the 2012-13 season, DePaul Women's Basketball will again have competed against a National Top 20 schedule."

The Blue Demons return six of its “Magnificent Seven” from last season including Martin, who led the BIG EAST in scoring with 19.1 points per game.  Katherine Harry also returns for her senior season after leading the league with 9.5 rebounds per outing last season.  The Blue Demons also return starters in junior Jasmine Penny and sophomore Brittany Hrynko.

The Blue Demons are slated to host BIG EAST Conference foes Georgetown, Notre Dame, Providence, Rutgers, Seton Hall, USF while they will travel to Cincinnati, Connecticut, Marquette, St. John's, Syracuse and Villanova.  DePaul’s home and away opponents are Pittsburgh and Louisville.
