Complete List of Preseason Wade Watch List
CHICAGO - DePaul senior forward Keisha Hampton has been named to the 2011-12 Preseason State Farm® Wade Watch List. Hampton, who is just returning from winning a gold medal with the USA Women's World University Games team, is one of 25 women to be named to the prestigious preseason list.
Now in its 35th year, the State Farm Wade Trophy is named after the late, legendary three-time national champion Delta State University coach, Lily Margaret Wade. The prestigious award, regarded as "The Heisman of Women's Basketball," is presented annually to the NCAA® Division I Player of the Year by the National Association of Girls and Women in Sport (NAGWS) and the WBCA.
The preseason list is composed of top NCAA Division I student-athletes from 17 institutions and seven conferences who best embody Wade's spirit. A committee of coaches, administrators and media from across the United States compiled the list using the following criteria: game and season statistics, leadership, character, effect on their team and overall playing ability.
Hampton, who was also a preseason Wade Watch candidate in 2010-11, led DePaul to the Sweet 16 last season by averaging 16.0 points per game which ranked fourth in the BIG EAST Conference. Hampton has started every game since arriving in Lincoln Park and begins her senior campaign with 1,375 points, 513 rebounds and 201 assists. A unanimous first-team All-BIG EAST selection, Hampton earned honorable mention All-America nods from the Associated Press and the Women's Basketball Coaches Association.
The BIG EAST Conference dominated the list with nine players, followed by the Big 12 Conference with four, the Atlantic Coast, Pac-12 and Southeastern conferences with three each, the Big Ten Conference with two, and the Colonial Athletic Conference with one.
DePaul opens its 2011-12 season against St. Mary's on Nov. 11 in the second game of the Maggie Dixon Classic. Tip is scheduled for 6 p.m. Women's basketball season tickets are on sale now starting at just $99 for all home games. For more information, call (773) 325-SLAM.
