CHICAGO – The Blue Demons are headed for a Downtown festival on Saturday.

Members of the DePaul men’s and women’s basketball teams along with the DePaul pep band and DePaul mascot Dibs will participate in the Open Streets event with 13 blocks in the Loop transformed into the ultimate urban playground.

The men’s basketball players will be at the Pop-A-Shot game located at State & Jackson on DePaul’s Loop campus from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

The women’s basketball players will be at the Pop-A-Shot game from 12:30-3 p.m. The pep band will be performing from noon-2 p.m. and Dibs will be on hand from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

Car traffic will be blocked off on State Street from Lake Street to Van Buren Street and on Monroe Street from State to Lake Shore Drive.

Open Streets will feature recreational activities such as biking, running, yoga classes, a skateboard park, a 500-square-foot interactive playground, a 500-gallon dunking tank and wall climbing.

Children can also participate in the popular four-square game, relay races and human tic-tac-toe.

The Chicago Loop Alliance (CLA) in partnership with Active Transportation Alliance organized Open Streets, whose initiative is to create a safe and fun environment in a car-free setting where communities can connect, families and friends can exercise and play and businesses can engage the public.

“We’re looking forward to inviting people to the Loop to experience two of Chicago’s world-renowned destinations---State Street and Millennium Park---in a new way,” said CLA Interim Executive Director Laura Jones.
