CHICAGO – The BIG EAST Conference announced its 2013-14 women’s basketball league and television schedule on Tuesday. The DePaul women are slated to appear on national television six times and will also host the BIG EAST Championship, March 8-11 at McGrath-Phillips Arena and Allstate Arena.

As part of the BIG EAST’s new partnership with FOX Sports, five of DePaul’s games will be televised on Fox Sports 1, which reaches nearly 90 million homes across the nation.  FOX Sports 1 also will televise the semifinals and finals of the BIG EAST Championship March 10-11.

"This year's league schedule might be new, but it will again create one of the toughest scheduling challenges in the country," head coach Doug Bruno said after seeing his team’s schedule, which features an 18-game, home-and-home conference slate that includes extensive national television exposure.

DePaul’s first televised game is slated for 6 p.m. on Dec. 12 when the Blue Demons host Kentucky at McGrath-Phillips Arena.  The fourth all-time meeting between the two programs is part of a DePaul basketball doubleheader on Fox Sports 1.  The Blue Demon men play Florida Atlantic at 8 p.m.

Beginning a new era of BIG EAST basketball, it is only fitting that DePaul would open its conference slate on New Years Day.  The Blue Demons host conference newcomer Xavier in DePaul’s inaugural game in the newly formatted conference, which figures to have nationally prominent and perennial NCAA contenders.

"Four of our BIG EAST programs competed in last season's NCAA Tournament,” Bruno said of Creighton, Villanova and St. John’s while his Blue Demons reached their 11th consecutive NCAA Tournament in 2013.

“Creighton and Marquette (WNIT) both have multiple starters returning, while St. John's and Villanova have always fought for the top spot in the league standings.  Georgetown and Xavier have been recent regulars in the top 25 while Providence, Seton Hall and Butler (WNIT) are programs that are on the rise," Bruno added.

Tabbed as the first BIG EAST women’s basketball showdown on Fox Sports 1, DePaul visits Creighton at 4 p.m. (CT) on Sat., Jan. 4 in a possible top 25 showdown.

DePaul returns to Chicago for games against Providence (Jan. 8) and St. John’s (Jan. 11) before playing at Seton Hall on Jan. 14.

Returning to Chicago, and to the Fox Sports 1 lineup, at 2 p.m. on Jan. 19, the Blue Demons host Villanova at McGrath-Phillips Arena.

DePaul then plays four of its next five games on the road from Jan. 22-Feb. 5 with a home contest against arch-rival Marquette on Jan. 29.

The Blue Demons’ second meeting with the Bluejays will also be showcased on Fox Sports 1 at noon on Feb. 9 in Lincoln Park.

DePaul closes out the month of February by hosting Seton Hall (Feb. 15) and BIG EAST newcomer Butler (Feb. 22), while playing road games at Marquette (Feb. 18) and Villanova (Feb. 25).

The Blue Demons march into the final month of the regular season at St. John’s on March 1.  The noon contest will be televised on Fox  Sports 1.

DePaul concludes the regular season with a prime-time CBS Sports Network game against Georgetown on Tue., Mar. 4.  The Hoyas and Blue Demons tip at 8 p.m. at McGrath-Phillips Arena.

"Our BIG EAST slate, when piled upon great non-conference opponents like Notre Dame, Kentucky, Washington, Northwestern, Pitt, our Maggie Dixon Field and tough local rivals, will really challenge our 2013-14 DePaul squad and I am confident we will be up to the challenge," Bruno said.

Brittany Hrynko, Jasmine Penny and Chanise Jenkins are all expected to return to the starting lineup for the Blue Demons, gunning for a 12th straight NCAA appearance.

Hrynko, a unanimous All-BIG EAST first team selection, is DePaul’s top returning scorer after averaging 14.7 points and 4.9 assists last season.  Jenkins, an all BIG EAST freshmen team selection, averaged eight points in her first season in a Blue Demon uniform.  Jenkins and Penny, a two-year starter, are DePaul’s top returning rebounders after each grabbed 4.9 boards per game last season.
