BIG EAST Announces Television Schedule for the 2009-10 Women's Basketball Season
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Coming off a season in which a league-record 13 teams advanced to the postseason, the BIG EAST's 2009-10 women's basketball television schedule features all 16 teams for the fourth straight year and continues to boast one of the top television slates in the nation. An additional highlight is Notre Dame and defending national champion Connecticut playing in the first-ever women's basketball College GameDay Driven by State Farm on ESPN.
The league's overall exposure continues to grow and this season's national television package includes: a game on CBS Sports, 18 appearances on ESPN/ESPN2, 27 on ESPNU and 25 on CBS College Sports Network.
DePaul is scheduled to have five conference games televised while it will be featured on the ESPN family of networks twice. DePaul's game with Marquette (Jan. 31) in Chicago is slated for ESPNU while its game at Notre Dame (Feb. 14) will be apart of ESPN2's February Frenzy. The Blue Demons appear on CBS College Sports against Louisville (Jan. 5) and Pittsburgh (Feb. 23) while they will appear on BIG EAST TV at Marquette (Feb. 20).
The Conference will have a presence on CBS Sports for the 15th straight year. Connecticut will host North Carolina on campus on Jan. 9 at 4 p.m. ET, in what is primed to be a top-25 matchup.
The BIG EAST will have a league-record 18 appearances on ESPN/ESPN2, including a conference-best six games matching up BIG EAST teams. The BIG EAST Championship Final on March 9 will be one of two games this season aired on the network's original station, ESPN. It will again be the only women's basketball conference final in the nation aired on ESPN. The BIG EAST is the only conference to be featured on the channel this season.
This year's schedule is highlighted by three separate ESPN events. Connecticut will open the season against Texas on ESPN2 in the ESPNU Road to the Championship on Nov. 17 in San Antonio, Texas, the site of the 2010 Final Four. Also positioned to be a top-25 game, Notre Dame will play at Connecticut on Jan. 16, in the first-ever ESPN College GameDay Driven by State Farm to be held in conjunction with a women's basketball game. ESPN's annual February Frenzy/Pink Zone will feature five BIG EAST teams on ESPN2. On Feb. 14, DePaul will travel to Notre Dame and Pittsburgh will host Louisville. The following day, Connecticut will play at Oklahoma in what is also part of six BIG EAST appearances on ESPN's Big Monday.
The Conference will have "Game of the Week" packages on ESPNU, CBS College Sports Network and on the BIG EAST Regional Sports Network.
The BIG EAST will appear on ESPNU 27 times, including seven regular-season games, one non-conference matchup and the BIG EAST Championship Quarterfinal and Semifinal rounds on March 7 and 8, respectively. ESPNU can now be seen in close to 50 million homes and will air a "Game of the Week" package for the third consecutive season. The package will showcase 10 BIG EAST teams throughout the entire schedule, including three schools with multiple appearances.
The BIG EAST Network Game of the Week Regional Television Package is in its fourth year and features a total of 26 appearances by league schools, including all four games of the BIG EAST Championship Second Round on March 6. ESPN Regional Television (ERT) will once again produce every game and SportsNet New York (SNY) will carry the entire package live in the nation's number one media market.
The BIG EAST will continue to expand its women's basketball web site coverage in 2009-10. For the second straight year, fans can watch both the first and second rounds of the Conference championship live on BIGEAST.tv, the league's online home for live and on-demand streaming audio and video.
