CHICAGO – With an exhibition game scheduled for Oct. 30 and with just 13 days before the start of the 2012-13 season, the DePaul women’s basketball received some preseason recognition by being ranked in the Associated Press’ Top 25.  The Blue Demons slide into the poll at No. 25 and are one of five BIG EAST Conference teams to appear in the preseason poll.

Coming into the 2012-13 season, the Blue Demons return six of their “Magnificent Seven” from last season including seniors – All-American Anna Martin and the BIG EAST’s leading rebounder in Katherine Harry.  A season ago, Martin and Harry provided DePaul a one-two punch on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball.

Martin paced the BIG EAST with 19.1 points per game and closed out her junior season by scoring 20-plus points in three of DePaul’s last five games including a career-best 36 points in the Blue Demons regular season finale against Cincinnati.   Martin begins her senior campaign on the Preseason Wade Watch List and was also a unanimous preseason All-BIG EAST selection.

Harry led the conference with 9.5 rebounds per game while she averaged 10.9 boards in league games.  She enters her final season in a Blue Demon uniform, with 804 career rebounds which ranks sixth on DePaul’s all-time list.

Complimenting DePaul’s seniors are four returners in juniors Jasmine Penny and Kelsey Reynolds and sophomores Megan Rogowski and Brittany HrynkoKelsey Smith, Chanise Jenkins, Megan Podkowa, Brooke Schulte, Brandi Harvey-Carr, and Alexa Gallagher are all newcomers to the Blue Demon roster.

Also appearing in the top 25 and on DePaul’s schedule are – Connecticut (No. 2) Kentucky (No. 6), Notre Dame (No. 7), Louisville (No. 9) and St. John’s (No. 14). Rutgers, Georgetown, Princeton and South Carolina are all receiving votes in the preseason poll.

DePaul opens its two-game exhibition schedule against St. Xavier at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at McGrath-Phillips Arena.  The Blue Demons play their final exhibition against Illinois Wesleyan at 5 p.m. on Nov. 3.
