Anna Martin is one of 30 canidates for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award

Nov. 2, 2012

OVERLAND PARK, KS - DePaul senior guard Anna Martin is one of 30 NCAA® women's basketball student-athletes who were named a candidate for the 2012-13 Senior CLASS Award.  To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence - community, classroom, character and competition.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

Martin is a preseason unanimous all BIG EAST Conference selection after leading the conference in scoring (19.1 ppg) a season ago.  The Kentucky native enters her final season in Lincoln Park with 1,382 career points which ranks 15th on DePaul's all-time scoring list.  A marketing major, Martin has been named an Academic All-BIG EAST selection while also earning I-AAA Scholar-Athlete recognition last season.  Active in DePaul's community service efforts, Martin has volunteered for Misericordia Candy Days, Vincent de Paul Feed the Homeless Sandwich Drive, St. Vincent de Paul Soup Kitchen, the Sheffield Garden Walk and has also participated in various athletic sponsored food, clothing and shoe drives.

The women's award winner will be announced during the NCAA Women's Final Four®, which will be held in New Orleans April 7 and 9.

The 30 women's candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, Division I women's coaches and fans will select one finalist who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.

DePaul closes out the exhibition portion of its schedule against Illinois Wesleyan at 5 p.m. on Saturday.  The game is part of a basketball doubleheader with the men taking on Lewis at 7:30 p.m.
