Women's Hoops Faces Duquesne for the Maggie Dixon Classic Title on Saturday

CHICAGO – The DePaul women’s basketball team returns to the hardwood on Saturday at 6 p.m. for the Championship Game of the Maggie Dixon Classic at McGrath-Phillips Arena.  The Blue Demons will tangle with Duquesne, who was an 89-64 winner over Cal Poly on Friday.

Saturday’s game is part of a basketball tripleheader with DePaul’s men hitting the hardwood against Grambling State at 3 p.m., followed by the women at 6 p.m. and the consolation game between Cal Poly and Harvard is scheduled for 8 p.m.

The championship game will be streamed live on DePaul’s BlueTube with Dave Bernhard and Trish Babcock McGraw calling the action courtside.  Gametracker is available for all three games while in-game scoring and notes can be followed at www.twitter.com/DePaulWBBSID.

DePaul (1-0) reached the championship game with an impressive 99-75 win over Harvard in the season opener for both teams on Friday.  Jasmine Penny led five Blue Demons in double-figures with 17 points.  The senior starter also added a team-high seven rebounds.  

Sharing the ball was key to the win over the Crimson as DePaul recorded an assists on 28 of its 40 baskets. Chanise Jenkins dished out for assists, while Brittany Hrynko, Megan Rogowski, ShaKeya Graves, Jessica January, Megan Podkowa and Penny each added three.

The Blue Demons are making their 10th consecutive trip to the Maggie Dixon Classic championship game.  DePaul has won nine of those 10 games, but suffered its only loss a season ago to Dayton.

Duquesne (1-0) was led in its win over Cal Poly by Wumi Agunbiade 20 points, nine rebounds and five steals.  

Saturday’s game is the third all-time meeting between the two teams.  The Dukes lead the all-time series 2-0, however the teams have not met since the 1998-99 season.

Following the 6 p.m. championship game, Cal Poly and Harvard will square off in the consolation game.

DePaul returns to the court on Nov. 18 for a 7 p.m. showdown with Illinois State at McGrath Phillips Arena.

Duquesne Quick Hits: Duquesne improves to 23-18 all-in season-openers and has won their last nine... Wumi Agunbiade led the Dukes with 20 points and now ranks 12th on Duquesne’s all-scoring list with 1,283... her 20-point scoring output marked her 14th career 20-point game... first year head coach Dan Burt won his first collegiate game as a head coach.

Series Notes: Duquesne has won both the series meetings between the two programs, including one in Chicago in 1997... Saturday’s game marks the first meetng between the two teams since the 1998-99 season... DePaul is 36-19 against the current line-up of the Atlantic 10... last season DePaul met Dayton from the A-10 in the Championship of the Maggie Dixon Classic...Dayton won that contest 92-80
