Women's Basketball Moves Up To Highest AP Ranking in School History
Associated Press Top 25
CHICAGO – Off to just the third 7-0 start in school history, the DePaul women’s basketball team moved up three spots to No. 11 in this week’s Associated Press top 25. The No. 11 slot passes the previous AP high of 12th set in February 2004. DePaul is tied at No. 11 with Stanford in this week’s poll.
The Blue Demons knocked off UW-Milwaukee and No. 22 Purdue last week to move up from No. 14. DePaul started at No. 18 in the AP preseason poll and improved to 17th the week of Nov. 21 and 14th last week.
The 11th spot matches the top overall ranking in program history in the USA Today/ESPN/WBCA Coaches’ top 25 set in each of the last two years. This week’s coaches’ poll will be released on Tuesday. The Blue Demons were also ranked 14th in last week’s USA Today/WBCA/ESPN Top 25.
DePaul puts the No. 11 ranking on the line on Wednesday as they open the BIG EAST Conference era on the road at South Florida. The Blue Demons and Bulls clash at 7 p.m. EST in Tampa. DePaul returns home on Saturday when UW-Green Bay visits the DePaul Athletic Center. Both games can be heard live on www.depaulbluedemons.com.
The Blue Demons are one of four BIG EAST teams among the top 12 ranked teams in the country. Rutgers leads the way at No. 6, followed by Connecticut at No. 8, Notre Dame at No. 10 and DePaul tied for 11th.
