LEXINGTON, Ky. - The DePaul women's basketball team returns to the hardwood at 7 p.m. (ET) on Friday against No. 7/6 Kentucky at Rupp Arena. The game between the Blue Demons and Wildcats will be broadcast on UK IMG/FSN South and ESPN3 with Garry Gupton and Christi Thomas calling the action courtside. Cami Padilla will call the game for DePaul's BlueTube while in-game scoring and notes can be followed on www.twitter.com/DePaulWBBSID.
Friday's contest, which has been tabbed "Pack the House" by Kentucky, is a homecoming game for DePaul senior All-American guard Anna Martin. The Lexington native attended Lexington Christian and helped her high school team to state championships in 2007, 2008 and 2009. This season, Martin is one of four Blue Demons averaging double figures while her 5.3 assists per game ranks second in the BIG EAST Conference.
Brittany Hrynko paces DePaul with 14.4 points, while Jasmine Penny (13.9), Katherine Harry (11.1) and Martin (12.1) are also putting up double-digit numbers each game. Hrynko is second in the BIG EAST with 3.0 3-pointers a game, while the sophomore guard has hit four triples in five games this season.
DePaul (6-2) is coming off an 89-61 win over Northwestern on Dec. 2, while Kentucky is the first ranked team the Blue Demons have faced this season. Friday's game is also the first road test for the Blue Demons who have posted a 4-1 record at McGrath-Phillips Arena and went 2-1 at the Paradise Jam in the US Virgin Islands over Thanksgiving.
Kentucky (6-1) is playing its first game at Rupp Arena since hosting Duke on Dec. 8, 2011. The Wildcats are 21-12 all-time in games played at Rupp while they are 2-4 in their last six games.
Kentucky has a balanced scoring attack with five players averaging eight or more points per outing. A'dia Mathies leads the squad with 13.3 points and 3.0 assists per game.
Friday's game is the third all-time series meeting between the Blue Demons and Wildcats, with the last meeting coming 1984 in Lexington. Kentucky leads the series 2-0, while DePaul is 16-45 all-time against schools from the SEC.
Following Friday's game, the Blue Demons return to Lincoln Park to host Milwaukee on Dec. 11 on Chicagoland Field Trip Day. Tuesday's game tips at Noon while McGrath-Phillips Arena will be packed to capacity with grade school children cheering on the Blue Demons.
