DePaul Travels to Loyola for the Battle of the Red Line

CHICAGO – The DePaul women’s basketball team travels from Lincoln Park to Rogers Park for a 7 p.m. contest on with Loyola on Tuesday at the Gentile Center. The 45th meeting between the cross-town rivals can be heard on DePaul’s BlueTube with Cami Padilla and Patricia Babcock-McGraw calling the action courtside.  Gametracker is also available while in-game notes and scoring can be followed at www.twitter.com/DePaulWBBSID.

DePaul has won its last two games and will play its second road game of the season on Tuesday.  The Blue Demons only other road game was a 96-64 loss at No. 7/6 Kentucky on Dec. 7.  Following wins over Milwaukee (94-83) and Northern Illinois (68-46) last week, senior guard Anna Martin was named the BIG EAST Conference Player of the Week.

Last week, Martin averaged 22.5 points and registered a season-high 30 points in the Blue Demons’ win over Milwaukee.  For the week, Martin shot 58.6 from the field and was a perfect 7-of-7 from the charity stripe.  The Lexington, Kentucky native also added seven assists and three steals while averaging 4.0 rebounds per game.

On the year, Martin is one of three Blue Demons averaging double figures.  Jasmine Penny leads the trio with 15.4 points, Martin follows with 14.4 and Brittany Hrynko sits at 13.5.  Penny is coming off a pair of 20-point performances, while the junior’s .585 field goal percentage ranks fourth in the BIG EAST.

Loyola enters Tuesday’s game having lost its last four games and is 2-1 in games played at the Gentile Center.  Led by Simone Law’s 13.0 points and 10.0 rebounds, the Ramblers are averaging 62.6 points per game.

Tuesday’s game marks the 45th meeting between the Blue Demons and Ramblers while DePaul leads the all-time series 35-9.  The Blue Demons have won the last 17 meetings dating back to the 1994 season.  DePaul is 15-6 in games played in Rogers Park and has won the last seven on the Northside.

The Blue Demons return to McGrath-Phillips Arena before the Christmas Holiday for a 7 p.m. game with Princeton on Dec. 21.

Anna Martin scored 27 points and the No. 22/21 DePaul women's basketball team extended its McGrath-Phillips winning streak to 22 games with a 70-65 win over crosstown rival Loyola on Saturday. DePaul opens BIG EAST Conference play on Wednesday against St. John's.
