CHICAGO - The DePaul women's soccer team captured the Loyola Invitational championship on Sunday morning, defeating Drexel 3-0.  The Blue Demons did not surrender a goal during the invitational, combing for an 8-0 showing against their opponents.

While the first half of play ended with a scoreless showing where DePaul outshot the Dragons 7-2 and earned four corners compared to Drexel's two, the Blue Demons used three second half scores to collect their second win of 2017.

The Blue Demons broke the silence in the 57th minute, capitalizing on a Drexel foul inside the box.  The foul set up a penalty kick for DePaul's senior midfielder Alexa Ben.  The Schaumburg, Ill., native netted the shot to the lower left corner past the goalkeeper's outstretched arms to record her fourth goal of the season.

Two minutes later, Madeline Frick gave the Blue Demons the 2-0 advantage netting a shot from the left side of the box.  The score was Frick's seventh career goal and first of the season.

In the 66th minute, junior Abigail Callahan gave DePaul an insurance goal, heading a cross from Madeline Frick from eight yards to cement the 3-0 victory.

"Picking up two shutout victories with quick turnarounds was very impressive for our team this weekend," said head coach Erin Chastain. "Drexel was a great opponent today and gave us a good fight.  Today, we had great minutes from our starters and gave some of our reserves quality minutes as well."

Four Blue Demons made the all-tournament team where Ben was named the invitational's Most Valuable Player.  Joining Ben on the all-tournament team were Avery Hay, Lucy Edwards, and Franny Cerny.

The Blue Demons return to action on Thursday, Aug. 31 when DePaul travels to West Lafayette, Ind., to face Purdue.  First touch from Folk Field is set for 6 p.m.

DePaul remains on the road until its home opener on Friday, Sept. 8 when the Blue Demons host Pepperdine at 3 p.m. at Wish Field.
