Blue Demon Attack Provides Third Win in a Row
Sep 1, 2013
CHICAGO - The goals just keep on coming for DePaul women's soccer.
That gives the Blue Demons 10 goals in their last three matches which has fueled a three-game winning streak.
"We're starting to find out how each other plays," said Wyatt whose third goal of the season in the 39th minute provided a 1-0 lead. "We're realizing how good our front line is, and it's not just one person. "Actually, everybody including forwards, midfielders, defenders and goalkeepers is really good, and we're playing well as a team."
Wyatt's goal was unassisted as she took advantage of a scrum in front of the Cougars net.
"It was so scrappy in there," Wyatt said. "There was a bunch of us by the net. I popped back out a little and caught a deflection off their defender. I was super close, and it was on my left foot. I took a controlled shot that went into the lower corner.
"It was a good way to start things off for our team."
In the 80th minute, Cicinelli made a sweet pass to Greik, and the freshman forward fired it in from close range for her second goal of the season. Three minutes later, Cicinelli scored her first goal of 2013 after a textbook pass from Ashleigh Goddard.
"I was really happy, and all three were really good goals," said DePaul coach Erin Chastain as her team improved to 3-1-0. "I thought we left some on the table in the first half and allowed College of Charleston to hang around. We need to get better at finishing a game early when we have the chance.
"We set out to attack them on the flank. Our players did a nice job of choosing a target, finding the target and finishing."
Wyatt has been impressed with Greik's fast start.
"It's really great when a freshman can score two goals in her first four games," Wyatt said. "She's doing a lot to help inspire the team."
College of Charleston (1-3-0) scored in the 89th minute.
The Blue Demons return to the Wish Field pitch for a 4 p.m. match Friday against Milwaukee.
