Sept. 10, 2017

Box Score

CHICAGO - Powered by the hat-trick performance by junior midfielder Franny Cerny, the DePaul women's soccer team pulled to a .500 record (4-4) on Sunday as the Blue Demons defeated William & Mary 4-0 at Wish Field.

Cerny netted two first half goals and then scored her third goal of the match three minutes into the second half to put DePaul ahead of the Tribe 3-0.

DePaul took a 1-0 lead in the 34th minute when a shot deflection by freshman Jade Eriksen-Russo was settled by Cerny and one-timed into the net.  Ten minutes later, Cerny struck again, receiving a cross from the right side of the box from Morgan Turner and pushing the touch into goal.

With a 2-0 lead at the break, Cerny made it 3-0 as senior Alexa Ben pushed a bounce pass through the box to the charging Cerny where the ball was flicked into the lower left-hand corner past the Tribe's goalkeeper.

Eriksen-Russo would join the scoring barrage in the 69th minute as the freshman netted her first collegiate career goal to add to the 4-0 victory.

"Playing and winning this past weekend at home was great," said head coach Erin Chastain. "A lot of our younger freshmen are stepping up and making an immediate impact in our matches.  Alexa [Ben] controlled the ball well for us today and had some solid opportunities.  We are going to continue to take this season one step at a time and use this week to clean up some of our flaws and close out our non-conference portion of the schedule with a strong effort."

DePaul will now take a week off from match play. Next, the Blue Demons will close out their non-conference schedule next Sunday, making the quick trip up to West Ridge to face off with crosstown rival Loyola at the Loyola Soccer Park on Sept. 17 at 1 p.m.
