CHICAGO – Two critical sequences remain in the mind’s eye after DePaul and Green Bay battled to a scoreless tie in double overtime on Wednesday.

Late in regulation time, DePaul goalkeeper Alejandria Godinez deflected a shot headed straight for the upper 90 of the Blue Demon net.

In the second overtime, Rebekah Roller ripped a shot off the post that bounced towards teammate Ashleigh Goddard. The rebound attempt by Goddard sailed just over the net.

DePaul (4-1-1) had a couple other chances but couldn’t convert while Green Bay (2-2-3) had a pair of dangerous attempts.

“This wasn’t our best day on the field,” said DePaul coach Erin Chastain. “As a result, two good defensive teams finished with a 0-0 tie.

“Green Bay disrupted our offense a lot. That team brings a lot of numbers to the ball on defense and there’s not a lot of space to work in.”

Both sides had opportunities to end it but could not find the back of the net.

“Roller took a very nice shot that hit the post,” Chastain said. “I was really happy that Ashleigh followed up the shot and was the first person there for the rebound. The ball was bouncing a little when she took the shot.

“Those two shots were an example of how things just didn’t click today.”

The tie did extend DePaul’s unbeaten streak to five matches.

“Our defense played well, but we weren’t as strong as we needed to be offensively,” Chastain said. “We will learn from this game and be ready for Sunday.”

The Blue Demons return to Wish Field for a noon match on Sunday against Colgate.
