WASHINGTON, D.C. - Alejandria Godinez played the game of her life, and her sensational goalkeeping performance is one Georgetown fans at Shaw Field won't soon forget.

Making one incredible save after another---including a penalty kick---Godinez led DePaul to a 1-1, double-overtime tie with No. 10/8 Georgetown Thursday in the BIG EAST Conference opener. She helped extend DePaul's unbeaten streak to eight games.

Godinez made a career-high 14 saves, including the final one with 12 seconds left in the second OT. A corner kick was directed right to the heart of the goalkeeper box where Kaitlin Brenn headed it towards the center of the net.

Only once again, Godinez was there to foil the attempt.

"Alex was unbelievable," said DePaul coach Erin Chastain. "She made so many plays to keep us in the game. After we scored early, we knew they would come at us with everything they had."

Ashleigh Goddard found the back of the net in the second minute of play after Elise Wyatt played a thru ball from the top of the box.

Georgetown (8-0-2, 0-0-1) features the No. 5 scoring offense in the country and launched one attack after another at a staunch DePaul defense that has only give up six goals in nine matches.

The irrepressible Hoyas had an 11-0 advantage in corner kicks when Mary Kroening headed No. 12 into the Blue Demon net from the near post in the 58th minute.

DePaul (6-1-2, 0-0-1) was called for a handball in the box in the 64th minute, mandating a penalty kick that was taken by preseason All-American Daphne Corboz.

"In PKs, it's really important not to have any doubt," Godinez said. "I saw how Corboz lined up the ball, and when she shot it, I made a dive to my right and deflected it. Then, I was able to deflect the rebound.

"It was just amazing, a great feeling. It felt like you conquered something. My teammates went crazy, and it was a great lift for the whole team.

"It wasn't just me today---it was my team. I couldn't have done it with them. We were able to go on the road and tie the No. 8 team in the nation."

Georgetown took 26 shots and DePaul launched five. The Hoyas had a 15-5 advantage in shots on goal and 17-2 in corner kicks. All of that added up to one goal for the home side.

"We knew they would have the ball more and that we would have to defend more," Chastain said. "All four of our backs were exceptional.

"It was our fight and heart and drawing strength from playing for each other that did it. I am proud of the effort we had.

"To get a point on the road against a top 10 team is a great way to start off the BIG EAST season."

Chastain has a feeling that this group can set itself apart from all the others that came before it in DePaul women's soccer history.

"I tell the players every day that this is a special group---and I really believe that," Chastain said. "They genuinely care about each other, and it shows in the way they play together on the field."

Godinez echoed her coach's sentiment.

"It's a team chemistry that we have," she said. "We set a goal, and it's the way we all believe in it. There's a lot of sacrificing for each other.

"When someone makes a mistake, nobody yells at her. It's okay, we got this. We care for each other and we play for each other."

The BIG EAST road swing continues with an 11 a.m. match Sunday at Providence.

NOTES: The Blue Demons have not lost since their Aug. 23 season opener---nearly five weeks ago... every shot DePaul took was on goal as Gini Yost, Wyatt, Goddard, Rebekah Roller and MaryKate Cicinelli had one attempt each... Nina Kodros, Yost, Wyatt, Rachel Pitman, Brianna Ryce, Roller and Kylie Nordness played the entire 110 minutes.
