DePaul Victimized by Rough Second Half
Oct. 9, 2011
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - What a promising beginning Sunday with Amber Paul giving DePaul an early lead.
If only there could have been a matching finish.
Instead, Seton Hall scored twice during a 5 minute, 33-second stretch in the second half and added an insurance goal in the Blue Demons' 3-1 BIG EAST Conference loss at Carroll Field.
Paul had scored her third goal of the season in the 10th minute when she converted a turnover into a shot from 18 yards out that landed in the Pirate net.
After giving up the early score, Seton Hall launched a first-half counter offensive and outshot the visitors 8-1 with five shots on goal.
There was a 90-second segment just before halftime when the Pirates fired two shots and a header that were all saved by DePaul goalkeeper Megan Pyrz.
After the first 45 minutes, Pyrz had made seven saves.
The freshman from Plymouth, Minn. would finish with 11 saves as Seton Hall launched 24 shots with 14 on goal.
Six minutes into the second half, Stephanie Soma and Angie Shehaj combined on a give-and-go that resulted in Soma's goal from six yards out.
In the 57th minute, the Blue Demons were whistled for a foul in the box.
Pyrz made a valiant save on the penalty kick, only to watch Brittany Albrecht score on the rebound.
Ashley Clarke added an insurance goal for the Pirates in the 82nd minute after a 25-yard cross from Ashley Beamish.
With the victory, Seton Hall improved to 8-5-2, 4-4-0 in the BIG EAST.
