DePaul Earns Point in Scoreless Draw against Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The DePaul women’s soccer team earned its seventh point of BIG EAST play on Thursday evening as the Blue Demons battled Providence to a scoreless draw after 110 minutes of play.

DePaul (5-7-4, 1-2-4 BIG EAST) made six attempts at the frame but was unable to push a strike into the net.  The Blue Demons’ best attempt of the evening came in the 39th minute off the foot of freshman Jade Eriksen-Russo as her point-blank attempt was deflected by the Friars’ goalkeeper.

While Providence (9-6-1, 4-2-1 BIG EAST) outshot DePaul 15-6 in the double overtime contest, the Blue Demons won the corners battle 3-2.

DePaul’s senior goalkeeper Lauren Frasca made five crucial saves on the evening as the Blue Demons pulled out their sixth shutout of the season.

The Blue Demons continue their two-match road trip on Sunday as DePaul heads slightly west to Pennsylvania where it will face Villanova at noon.  The Wildcats lead the all-time series, that dates back to 2005, 7-6-1.  DePaul shutout Villanova with a 3-0 showing on Oct. 9, 2016, in the last meeting between the two conference rivals.
