Former All-American Julianne Sitch Picked in WPS Draft



CHICAGO Former DePaul women’s soccer All-American Julianne Sitch added another first for the DePaul record book as she became the first Blue Demon selected to play in the Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) league. She was selected by Sky Blue FC in the fifth round of Friday’s draft in St. Louis, Mo.

Throughout her four-year career (2002-05) at DePaul, Sitch rewrote the Blue Demons record book as she became the program’s first All-American and led the team to its first NCAA Tournament appearance. She still holds career records in points, goals and assists along with season marks in points and goals.

Sitch totaled 90 career points on 32 goals and 26 assists while setting season records in 2003 with 31 points and a dozen goals. In 2003, she was a second team NSCAA All-American and was the 2003 Conference USA Player of the Year.

Sky Blue FC is opens its inaugural season this Spring as one of seven teams in the WPS. Sky Blue FC will play its games at Yurcak Field on the campus of Rutgers University.
