Women's Soccer Announces 2004 Schedule

2004 Schedule

CHICAGO – DePaul women’s soccer coach John Wilson recently announced the 2004 schedule for the defending Conference USA Tournament Champions.  The Blue Demons open the season at Central Michigan with a pair of tournament matches.  DePaul aims to defend their C-USA Tournament title in St. Louis on Nov. 3-6.

"I'm very excited about the 2004 schedule, because it will provide us the opportunity to remain one of the top 10 teams in the region and aid us in our goal to win the C-USA regular season championship,” said Wilson.  “The schedule is competitive and allows for a variety of opponents.  We look forward to the fall season with great anticipation and excitement."

Following a match against the DePaul alumni and an exhibition game with Purdue on Aug. 21, the Blue Demons open the regular season at the Central Michigan Tournament in Mt. Pleasant, Mich.  The Blue Demons take on host Central Michigan and Detroit in the season-opening tournament.  The exhibition match with the Purdue will be a rematch of last year’s NCAA Tournament first round game that saw the Boilermakers advance over the Blue Demons with a 2-1 victory.

DePaul opens the home portion of the schedule the first weekend in September.  Western Michigan comes to Wish Field on Sept. 3, followed by Liberty on Sept. 5.  The weekend of Sept. 10 has the Blue Demons on the road at Eastern Illinois on Friday and UW-Milwaukee on Sunday.

After a Friday afternoon match with Northern Iowa, DePaul starts Conference USA action with the Marquette Golden Eagles at Wish Field on Sunday, Sept. 19.  The Marquette match is the first of nine consecutive matches against C-USA opponents.

The club ends September and starts October with four straight road matches.  In the final weekend of September, DePaul travels to Memphis and Saint Louis before playing at East Carolina on Oct. 1 and Charlotte on Oct. 3.

DePaul finishes the regular season with six straight home matches before playing the finale at UAB.  The Blue Demons entertain C-USA foes Louisville, Cincinnati, Houston and TCU in back-to-back weekends.  A year ago, the Blue Demons posted a 6-1 record at Wish Field.

Senior Day is set for Sunday, Oct. 24, against Indiana.  The weekend opens on Friday with former DePaul assistant coach Derrek Falor and Cleveland State at Wish Field.

"We are probably most excited to be playing our former assistant coach, Derrek Falor in his first year of competition with his Cleveland State team,” said Wilson.  “Derrek helped recruit many of our current players so he will know many of them well.  I know our players respect Derrek a great deal and will be proud to compete with his team."

The Blue Demons wrap up the regular season with an Oct. 29 match at UAB.  A year ago, the Blazers won the regular-season C-USA Championship.  The annual league tournament is set for Nov. 3-6, in St. Louis, Mo.  Last year in Charlotte, the Blue Demons entered the league tourney as the No. 6 seed before winning the tournament title in dramatic fashion and advancing to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history.
