Blue Demons Unveil 2009 Schedule
CHICAGO DePaul women’s soccer coach Erin Chastain announced today the 2009 schedule for the Blue Demons. The 20-match slate features five teams that advanced to the 2008 NCAA Tournament while the Blue Demons host nine games at Wish Field. "We are extremely excited about our 2009 schedule,” said Chastain. “We have a great non-conference schedule that will help prepare us for our very competitive BIG EAST Conference games. We are anxious for the season to start." The Blue Demons jump into the schedule immediately with an Aug. 21 trip to Rogers Park to face Loyola-Chicago. DePaul’s season-opening weekend concludes with another local foe when Northwestern visits Wish Field on Aug. 23. DePaul’s regular-season schedule features all games on Friday and Sunday this season as the month of August concludes with a home game against Toledo on Aug. 28 followed by a road match at Missouri on Aug. 30. Both the Rockets and Tigers earned bids to last season’s NCAA Championship field. September features the end of the non-conference schedule and the start of DePaul’s fifth season in the BIG EAST Conference. Four of the first five matches are on the road with a trip to Iowa for games at Iowa State Drake over Labor Day weekend. The lone home match is scheduled for Sept. 11 against Butler before a Sept. 13 match at Wisconsin and the league-opener at Notre Dame on Sept. 18. The Blue Demons wrap up the non-conference portion of the schedule two days later on Sept. 20 against Illinois State before 10 straight games in BIG EAST play. DePaul travels to Louisville on Sept. 25 and hosts Cincinnati on Sept. 27. Four straight road matches followed by four straight games at Wish Field conclude the regular season. On Oct. 2, the Blue Demons play at Pittsburgh followed by a match at West Virginia two days later. The last road trip of the season is the weekend of Oct. 9 with a New Jersey trip to Seton Hall and Rutgers. The four-match homestand starts on Oct. 16 against Providence before Connecticut visits Chicago on Oct. 18. Georgetown and Villanova conclude the regular season at Wish Field the weekend of Oct. 23. The final home match of the season is also Senior Day as the Blue Demons and Wildcats play on Oct. 25. The 2009 BIG EAST Championship starts at campus sites with the first round on Oct. 29 and quarterfinals on Nov. 1. The final four teams in the league tournament travel to Storrs, Conn., for the semifinals and final on Nov. 6 and Nov. 8.
