Women's Soccer Recruiting Class Honored
CHICAGO - DePaul women's soccer coach John Wilson continued to build the program as this season's incoming freshman class was recently named one of the top classes in the Great Lakes region by SoccerBuzz magazine. The group was ranked 11th in the region and in the nation's top 100, the first such rankings in the program's six-year history. This year's freshman class includes the Illinois Gatorade Player of the Year and three incoming players that earned Chicago Tribune All-State mention. The Blue Demons begin practice in less than a month and open the 2002 campaign with a pair exhibition matches followed by the season opener at Northwestern on Aug. 30. The second weekend of September has the Blue Demons opening the home portion of the schedule with games against Drury on the 13th and Idaho on the 15th. DePaul will play seven matches at Wish Field during the 2003 season. The Blue Demons were one of four Conference USA schools in the Great Lakes' top 20 as Marquette was ranked seventh, followed by DePaul at 11th, Cincinnati at 17th and Louisville tied for No. 20. Other C-USA schools to earn regional honor included Houston (7th) and Tulane (13th) in the Central region and Charlotte (16th) in the Southeast region.
