DePaul Heads to Northwestern for Saturday Exhibition
Aug. 10, 2012
CHICAGO - The DePaul women's soccer team gets its 2012 preseason underway on Saturday evening as the Blue Demons travel to Evanston to take on Northwestern in an exhibition match at 6 p.m.
It is the second straight season that DePaul takes on the Wildcats in preseason action though the Blue Demons fell 2-0 to the host last year. This season's exhibition serves as DePaul's only warm-up against an opponent before kicking off the regular season.
With the departure of senior and leading point-getter Morgan Celaya along with several other key veterans, the Blue Demons hope this exhibition match helps to solidify a starting 11 for the 4 p.m. season opener on August 17 at Wish Field.
Competing as a young squad last season, the Blue Demons now have another year--and in many cases, a first year--of collegiate experience under their belts. Those returners, coupled with the incoming class, look forward to improving their 3-11-2 record from a season ago.
Newcomers to the squad include a crop of four freshmen, a sophomore, and a junior. Elise Wyatt, Brianna Ryce, Kaily Cox, and Alejandria Godinez make up the freshmen ensemble while sophomore Sara Brathwaite (Santa Clara University) and junior Kimberly Denne (Foothills College) round out the incoming Blue Demons.
Following Saturday's exhibition, the Blue Demons return to Wish Field for the first time in 2012 to face off against Towson University at 4 p.m. on August 17. DePaul takes a one-day break before getting back on the pitch on Sunday, August 19 to take on cross-town foe Loyola at 1 p.m.
