Blue Demons Top Toledo In Exhibition Match

FT. WAYNE, Ind. – The DePaul women's soccer team won the first of two preseason exhibition matches with a 2-0 deicision over Toledo on Friday night.  The match was part of the IPFW Soccer Showcase hosted by IPFW.

The Blue Demons won with goals from Kelly DeBaene and Alissa VonderHaar while the defense and goalkeeper Sarah West held the Rockets scoreless.

"The team played pretty well,” said head coach John Wilson.  "We felt like we could have scored more goals.  We had some opportunities, but on the other hand so did Toledo as they hit the post.  Defense is a huge focus for us this year and it was nice to get a shutout in our first exhibition game."

DePaul travels to Loves Park, Ill. for their second and final preseason match on Sunday afternoon.  The Blue Demons take on Loyola-Chicago with kick off slated for 1 p.m.

The regular season starts with the Boiler Challenge Cup next weekend in West Lafayette, Ind.  DePaul takes on Detroit in the first match on Friday before playing either host Purdue or Cal Poly on Sunday.
