Blue Demons Play to Exhibition Tie

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – In the lone exhibition tune-up for the 2004 season, the DePaul women’s soccer team played to a 2-2 tie against Purdue at the IPFW Soccer Showcase on Saturday.  Lauren Spacht scored both goals for the Blue Demons as the two clubs traded goals over a four-minute flurry in the second half.

Following a scoreless first half, the two offenses came alive with four goals in less than four minutes.  The Boilermakers took a 1-0 lead at 52:44 only to see Spacht answer with a laser to the upper left corner from 30 yards out at 54:12.

Purdue took the lead again, and again Spacht answered.  This time it only took 39 seconds as Erin Davren’s free kick found its way to Spacht and she sent it home to knot the match at two goals each at the 56:00 mark.  The score stood that way for the remainder of the match and ended in the 2-2 tie.

“We played a lot of players tonight.  It’s an exhibition game and we wanted to see some things on the field,” said head coach John Wilson.  “Purdue really challenged us tonight, and they’re a really good team.  We had some good individual performances and our newcomers were dynamic.  Everyone worked well together.”

Purdue held a 12-9 advantage in shots taken while DePaul goalkeeper Lindsey Deason made six saves.

The Blue Demons open the regular season next weekend at the Central Michigan Invitational.  DePaul takes on host Central Michigan on Friday before playing Ball State on Sunday.
