Blue Demons Open Season With 3-0 Victory
Boxscore MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Lea Hill scored a pair of goals in a 3-0 win over Central Michigan in the season-openers for both teams. Jennifer Dyer also scored her first collegiate goal as the Blue Demons, ranked fifth in the Great Lakes Region, opened up the match with two goals in a span of three minutes midway through the second half. Hill, a sophomore, tallied her first goal of the game and season on a breakaway in the 39th minute. Dyer found Hill and she took to the net past Chippewa keeper Anne Decker at 38:34. In the second half, it was Dyer’s turn and she hooked up with Julianne Sitch and Hill to give the Blue Demons an insurance score at 65:59. Hill sealed the victory three minutes later as Sitch and Erin Walter set her up for her second goal of the game at 68:58. Hill, who scored one goal last season, tallied the first multi-goal game of her career and added an assist. Sitch totaled a pair of assists while Dyer added an assist in her first collegiate match. Goalkeeper Lindsey Deason turned in a huge performance to start the season. She finished with 11 saves while Central Michigan took 14 shots. DePaul finished the match with 16 shot attempts. For Deason, it was her fourth career match of at least 10 saves. She totaled a career-best 13 against Tulane in the Conference USA Tournament semifinals last season. “We started slow this afternoon and then picked things up after the first 15 minutes,” said head coach John Wilson. “Lindsey was outstanding in goal this afternoon, she definitely earned the shutout. Lea came off the bench and gave us a spark.” In Friday’s first match, Ball State knocked off Detroit, 1-0. DePaul and Ball State play at noon EST on Sunday while Central Michigan and Detroit tangle at 2 p.m. EST.
