PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Following a 2-0 weekend by the DePaul women’s soccer squad, the BIG EAST Conference has recognized junior midfielder Rebekah Roller’s defensive efforts by naming her to this week’s Honor Roll.

Roller, who competes as the Blue Demons’ holding midfielder, played nearly 160 minutes—and the full 90 on Sunday—over the two weekend contests. In those matches, DePaul notched two shutouts. Friday’s victory, a 3-0 win over Ohio, came in the blistering heat while Sunday’s 1-0 victory over Valparaiso came in stormy, wet conditions.

In addition to her strong defensive play, Roller also added to the DePaul offense. Along with her skilled distributing and controlling of the tempo, Roller launched a free kick on Sunday that initiated the game-winning goal. Off the free kick, junior Ashleigh Goddard headed it straight to senior Kelly Blumberg who buried it into the lower left-hand corner of the net to give the Blue Demons the 1-0 win.

Despite playing her first two seasons on the backline, Roller has been impressive so far in 2012 after making the switch to midfield. In her first four collegiate contests as midfielder, Roller has notched two assists and has averaged almost 85 minutes per match.

The Blue Demons hit the road this week when they head to Dayton, Ohio, to take on Wright State on Friday and the University of Dayton on Sunday.
