Blue Demons Lose at Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The DePaul women's soccer team dropped their second straight match to open the 2005 season with a 4-0 decision against Purdue in the consolation game of the Boiler Challenge Cup.  DePaul took 15 shots, but couldn't find the net as the Boilermakers scored three goals in the first half and the fourth goal in the second half.
 
Purdue (1-1) got on the board in the 26th minute when Jessica Okoroafo beat DePaul goalkeeper Cara LaRocca for the eventual game-winner.  Six minutes later, Lauren Sesselmann scored for Purdue on a header off a free kick from Kim Comisar at 31:07.  The Boilermakers added a third goal of the first half at 42:31 when Kalie Grambeau scored her first goal of the season.

The final goal of the match came at 70:06 when Jill Sarbaugh took a cross from the right side and scored past Sarah West.  Grambeau and Jayme-Lee Biamonte were credited with assists on the goal.

DePaul (0-2) took 15 shots in the match forcing Purdue goalkeeper Lauren Mason to make seven saves.  LaRocca and West combined for 10 saves in the match.  The Boilermakers have won all six meetings between the two schools.

LaRocca was named to the All-Tournament team after compiling 14 saves in the two matches.  The Blue Demons opened the tournament with a 3-0 loss to Detroit on Friday.  Cal Poly won the tournament with a 3-0 victory over Detroit in the championship match on Sunday.

The Blue Demons open the home portion of the schedule next weekend as Eastern Illinois and Northern Illinois come to Wish Field.  DePaul takes on Eastern Illinois on Friday at 4 p.m. followed by a 1 p.m. match with Northern Illinois on Sunday.
