Women's Soccer Falls to Ball State
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – After scoring three goals on Friday afternoon against Central Michigan, the DePaul women’s soccer team had trouble finding the net in a 2-1 loss to Ball State on Sunday in the finale of the CMU Invitational. The Blue Demons outshot the Cardinals, 15-8, but were unable to score more than the single goal by Jennifer Dyer.
Dyer’s goal put the Blue Demons ahead in the 26th minute. Lauren Spacht was credited with her first assist of the year on Dyer’s goal at 25:54. For Dyer, it was her second career goal in her second collegiate match.
The Blue Demons had numerous opportunities in the first 45 mintues as they outshot Ball State, 8-2. However they couldn’t find the net and were unable to build on the early lead.
The Cardinals scored twice in six minutes to gain their second victory of the season. Lindsay Wiltshire scored both goals with the first at 51:57 and the second coming at 57:55. Dee Nocero assisted both scores.
"We hit the crossbar twice and hit the post once today," said Wilson. "We felt like we played well enough to win, but didn't finish like we needed to. We need to do a better job of finishing and playing at a high level of soccer for 90 minutes."
DePaul (1-1-0) returns home for a pair of Labor Day weekend matches at Wish Field. The Blue Demons host Western Michigan on Friday afternoon before playing Liberty on Sunday.
