DePaul Tops Toledo

CHICAGO – Julianne Sitch’s second consecutive multi-goal game led the DePaul Blue Demons over the visiting Toledo Rockets, 3-1, on Friday afternoon.  Freshman Katie Kiene knocked in her first collegiate goal to seal the match midway through the second half.

Toledo (0-3-0) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after Melissa Lesage scored her second goal of the season.  She lofted a shot from 20 yards over DePaul keeper Lindsey Deason in the 11th minute for a 1-0 advantage.

Nearing the end of the first half, Lauren Spacht found Sitch wide open in the front of the goal and she sent it home to tie the match at 35:13.  It was Spacht’s first career assist and Sitch’s third goal of the year.

In the second half, the Blue Demons scored twice in a span of four minutes as Sitch took a pass from Lea Hill and beat Toledo goalkeeper Jen Whipple for the eventual game-winner.  Kiene scored the match’s final goal at 55:48 on a 30-year bomb on the right sideline to the left side of the net.

Last Sunday, Sitch scored the tying and game-winning goals after tallying two scores and an assist last Sunday at UW-Green Bay.  Overall, the sophomore has tallied three multi-goal games in her career.

DePaul (2-1-0) outshot the Rockets, 13-9, while Deason was forced to make one save.  The Blue Demons also tallied three corner kicks compared to one for Toledo.

The Blue Demons go on the road Sunday as they travel to Iowa State.  Kickoff with the Cyclones is set for 1 p.m. in Ames, Iowa.
