Blue Demons Host Valparaiso and UW-Green Bay At Wish Field

CHICAGO - The DePaul women's soccer team will look to equal last weekend's pair of victories with two more on Friday and Sunday at Wish Field. On Friday, the Blue Demons host Valparaiso at 4 p.m. and UW-Green Bay on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. DePaul is 2-0 after defeating Indiana State and Western Illinois last weekend.

Recapping the Last Two
The Blue Demons opened the season with a 3-0 win over Indiana State on Aug. 31. Colleen Ahearh, Ogonnaya Dotson-Newman and Christy Young each scored a goal while keeper Lindsey Deason recorded a shutout in her first collegiate contest.

On Sunday, DePaul knocked off Western Illinois, 3-1. The Blue Demons built a 3-0 lead before allowing a late goal in the final 3-1 tally. Young scored and added an assist on a Kelly Kammer goal. Autumn Laidler also notched her first score of the year on a penalty kick in the 59th minute.

Young Takes Player of the Week Honors
After scoring two goals and assisting in one, junior forward Christy Young was named the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week. The Ft. Wayne, Ind., native is ranked second on the six-year old DePaul scoring chart with 23 career points. She is also tied for first with seven career assists and tied for second with eight goals.

Looking At This Weekend's Opponents
The Valparaiso Crusaders enter Friday's match at 1-1 after defeating Indiana State and losing to Eastern Illinois last weekend. Lori Moore has scored all three Valparaiso goals this season while taking 10 shots. A year ago, the Blue Demons lost at Valparaiso, 3-1. The all-time series between the Blue Demons and Crusaders stands at 2-2.

Wisconsin-Green Bay has lost their first two matches to Bowling Green and Marquette by scores of 2-0. DePaul won at UW-Green Bay last year, 3-2, and lead the all-time series 3-1-1.

Home Sweet Home
The 2-0 start at Wish Field could be a sign of good things to come for the Blue Demons. When looking at the 2001 schedule, seven of the first eight matches are in Chicago. Overall, DePaul plays 12 of their 19 matches at home during the regular season.
