AMES, Iowa - Goalkeeper Lindsey Deason tallies nine saves while Lauren Spacht scores a goal and assists another. DePaul plays at Northern Iowa on Friday and Northwestern on Sunday.
AMES, Iowa – A goal in each half was too much on Sunday afternoon as the visiting DePaul Blue Demons shutout Iowa State, 2-0. The win was the third in a row for DePaul after dropping their season-opener at No. 12 Nebraska.
Freshman Lauren Spacht assisted the first DePaul score as she found Julianne Sitch just before halftime. Sitch put it past Iowa State keeper Beth Chapman at 42:46 for her fifth goal in the last three games.
Spacht came back in the second half and took a pass from Amanda Marier to score her first collegiate goal at 55:46. For Marier, it was her first collegiate assist.
Goalkeeper Lindsey Deason was busy as the Cyclones outshot the Blue Demons, 17-15. The junior made nine saves and picked up her second shutout of the season. It was also her eighth career shutout.
“Iowa State is a very good team,” said head coach John Wilson. “They took it to us in the second half. Lindsey (Deason) played fantastic in goal to get the shutout.”
DePaul takes their three-match winning streak on the road next weekend for games at Northern Iowa and Northwestern. The Blue Demons and Panthers play at 5 p.m. on Friday before DePaul takes on Northwestern at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
