CHICAGO - Sophomore earns national honor after picking up Conference USA Player of the Week mention on Monday. Blue Demons take on Northern Iowa and Northwestern this weekend.
Soccer Buzz National Elite Team of the Week
CHICAGO – Following the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week honors on Monday, Julianne Sitch was one of 11 players named to the Soccer Buzz National Elite Team of the Week. The sophomore earned the honors after leading the Blue Demons to wins over Toledo and Iowa State last weekend. In the two victories she scored three goals, including the game-winner in both matches. It is her first appearance on the online magazine’s weekly honor roll.
With the Blue Demons trailing 1-0 against Toledo on Friday, Sitch knotted the match in the first half before scoring the game-winner early in the second period. Her second goal was memorable as she dribbled around the Toledo keeper and chipped it to the back of the net. At Iowa State on Sunday, she scored DePaul's first goal of the day just before halftime for her second game-winner of the weekend.
In four matches this season, Sitch leads the team with 11 points on five goals and an assist. Those numbers also put her at the top of the Conference USA statistics in points, goals and game-winning goals. She put together back-to-back multi-goal games against UW-Green Bay and Toledo and has scored at least one goal in three consecutive games. She has also taken a team-high 23 shots with three game-winning goals.
Over 23 career games, Sitch is among all-time leaders in DePaul soccer history. Her 32 points rank third all-time in scoring while her 13 career goals are also third. Her six career assists put her in a tie for fifth all-time. As a freshman, the Oswego, Ill., native set the DePaul single-season record with 21 points on eight goals and five assists.
