Women's Soccer Comes Up Short at Eastern Illinois
CHARLESTON, Ill. – The DePaul women’s soccer team dropped their first road game of the weekend, 3-2, at Eastern Illinois on Friday afternoon. Lea Hill scored her fourth goal of the season while Lauren Spacht found the net for the second straight game.
The Panthers got on the board early as Laura Keating scored the first of her two goals in the match. Audra Frericks set up the score with a cross and Keating headed in at 8:55.
DePaul didn’t back down and tied the match in the 18th minute on Spacht’s second goal of the season. Erin Walter found Spacht and she broke free and beat the keeper on the right side of the net.
The tie didn’t last long as Eastern Illinois (3-2) upped the lead again exactly one minute later at 18:45 when Trisha Walter beat DePaul keeper Lindsey Deason to make the score 2-1 in favor of the home team.
In the second half, Keating scored her second goal of the match, and eventual game-winner, when she headed in a corner kick from Rachel Dorfman at 50:55.
DePaul (2-3) kept the pressure on as the put together four straight corner kicks. In the 73rd minute, Hill broke through the Panther defense and beat the keeper to the right side of the net.
With the score at 3-2, Hill nearly tied the match with just over five minutes remaining. She broke free again, but Tiffany Groene made the point-blank save to salvage the win for Eastern Illinois.
DePaul keeper Lindsey Deason finished the afternoon with seven saves, including a penalty kick stop, while facing 17 shots. The Blue Demons also finished with seven second-half corner kicks.
The Blue Demons continue the road trip this weekend with a Sunday afternoon match in Milwaukee. DePaul wraps up the weekend road trip against the UW-Milwaukee Panthers at 4 p.m.
