Blue Demons Blank Northern Iowa

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The DePaul women’s soccer team ran their winning streak to four games with a 1-0 win over previously undefeated Northern Iowa on Friday.  Amber Prindle’s header off a Colleen Ahearn corner kick proved to be the difference in the match.

The Blue Demons put the pressure on the Panthers for most of the match, taking 22 shots compared to 10 for the home team.  The pressure forced Northern Iowa goalkeeper Anne-Marie Witko to make 10 saves during the match.

On the game-winning corner kick, Ahearn sent in a perfect cross that Prindle went up in the air and headed it past Witko for the match’s only goal at 68:28.  For Ahearn, it was her first assist of the season and Prindle’s second career goal.

“It was a very exciting game,” said head coach John Wilson.  “We struggled a little bit finishing, but I am proud of the team.  They showed a lot of maturity and focus today.  Collen Ahearn and Amber Prindle put together a beautiful goal off the corner kick.  Anytime you play an undefeated team, it’s going to be tough.  We stuck in there and got the result we needed on the road.”

Goalkeeper Lindsey Deason finished the match with four saves while picking up her third shutout of the season.

The Blue Demons look to match the program’s record of five straight wins on Sunday at Northwestern.  The Blue Demons and Wildcats start at 11 a.m. at the Thomas Sports Complex in Evanston.  DePaul’s men’s team will be in action later on Sunday when they also play at Northwestern at 4 p.m.
