Blue Demons Top Mastodons, 3-0
CHICAGO - The DePaul women's soccer team ran their record to 5-0 with a 3-0 victory over Indiana-Purdue Ft. Wayne on Sunday afternoon at Wish Field. IPFW held DePaul scoreless over the first 45 minutes, but the Blue Demons struck twice in the first 15 minutes of the second half for the win. DePaul has scored three goals in every win this season and posted back-to-back shutouts. Katie Hawkins broke the scoreless tie 14 seconds into the second half on a 30-yard shot. After the Blue Demons kicked off the period, Hawkins launched a shot from the right sideline that skidded past Mastodon goalkeeper Lindsay Moskwinski. For Hawkins, it was her first goal of the season. At 59:52, freshman Jen Kastner found the net for the first time in her collegiate career on a shot very similar to Hawkins. Colleen Ahearn passed the ball to Kastner on the left sideline and the freshman knocked it in from 30 yards out. DePaul's final score of the match came with 18 seconds remaining on the clock as Christy Young beat an IPFW defender and fired it into the goal from about 15 yards away. Blue Demon goalkeeper Lindsey Deason collected her third shutout of the season with three saves. She also faced a penalty shot that went wide right. On the season, Deason has not allowed a goal on two penalty kicks and allowed just two scores in five matches. The Blue Demons open Conference USA play next weekend with a pair of matches against South Florida and UAB. The Bulls come to Chicago on Friday at 4 p.m. followed by the Blazers at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday. Both matches will be played at Wish Field.
