Blue Demons Lose at Notre Dame

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The DePaul women's soccer team lost in their first BIG EAST match, 6-0, on Friday night at Notre Dame.  The fifth-ranked Irish jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the game's first 17 minutes and never looked back.

Kerris Hanks and Katie Thorlakson each finished the match with two goals and two assists.  The duo was involved in five of the six goals for Notre Dame (6-1-0, 1-0-0 BIG EAST).

Thorlakson scored at 8:51 off an assist by Annie Schefter followed by Amanda Cinalli's goal that was set up by Hanks at 13:03.  Thorlakson struck again at 16:24 when she gathered a rebound off a shot by Hanks to make the score 3-0.  Notre Dame's final goal of the first half was scored on an unassisted goal by Jen Buczkowski at 26:10.

Hanks scored twice in the second half on assists by Thorlakson and Buczkowski in the 49th and 51st minutes.  Notre Dame outshot DePaul, 25-2, as Julianne Sitch was the only player to get off an attempt for the Blue Demons.

DePaul (1-4-1, 0-1-0 BIG EAST) returns to Wish Field and hosts Central Michigan on Sunday in non-conference action.  The match is the second game of a soccer doubleheader as the DePaul men's team takes on BIG EAST opponent Seton Hall at 12:30 p.m.  Following Sunday's game, the Blue Demons host Louisville next Friday before playing five consecutive road matches.
