Goddard Earns Her First BIG EAST Award of the Season
Sept. 16, 2013
CHICAGO - A clutch performance by Ashleigh Goddard resulted in the first BIG EAST Conference accolade of the season for the senior midfielder.
After scoring the golden goal and also contributing an assist in DePaul's 3-2, double-overtime victory over 2012 NCAA tournament qualifier Colgate on Sunday, Goddard was selected to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday.
Goddard's shot into the lower left in the 109th minute took away the sting of a Colgate penalty shot that had tied the match 2-2 in the 84th minute.
"It was good to get that goal after I'd had a couple of chances to score earlier in the game," Goddard said. "And I was happy to get the assist on Elise Wyatt's goal. She did all the hard work on that one."
Wyatt leads the Blue Demons with five goals while Goddard has two goals and two assists. They have helped lead DePaul (5-1-1) to its best start since 2002 when the Blue Demons opened 5-1.
Goddard has also helped lead DePaul to a six-game undefeated streak that will be on the line Thursday when the Blue Demons face a talented SMU team in Dallas.
In that six-game stretch, DePaul has outscored its opponents 14-4.
Goddard is the third women's soccer player to be honored by the BIG EAST this season. Previously, Wyatt and freshman Ana Greik had been named to the Honor Roll.
