Women's Soccer Opens Conference USA Schedule



CHICAGO – The DePaul women’s soccer team returns to Wish Field for the first of two Conference USA matches on Friday against Houston.  On Sunday, the Blue Demons take on visiting TCU.  Kickoff with the Cougars is set for 4 p.m. while the Sunday match starts at 1 p.m.

 

Noting the Blue Demons

DePaul has outscored their opponents, 11-4, with three shutouts… the Blue Demons have not allowed a goal in the second half of any match this season… they have also taken 106 shots compared to 77 for the opposition… Julianne Sitch leads the club and Conference USA with 11 points and five goals… on DePaul’s 11 goals, there have been nine assists… in addition to Sitch, six other players have scored at least one goal this season… the Blue Demons play six of their next eight games on the road… they play four of the last five at Wish Field… in non-conference matches over the last three seasons, DePaul is 17-7… all time in Conference USA play (seven years), the club holds a 10-5-6 record… head coach John Wilson is in his fourth season with the Blue Demons.

Scouting the Weekend Opponents

Houston – The Cougars enter Friday’s match at 2-4-1… junior midfielder Nikki Hawkins leads the club with six points on three goals… overall, Houston has been outscored, 12-4, in their seven matches… they have knocked off Eastern Washington (1-0) and Texas State (1-0, 2OT) while losing to North Texas (2-0), Baylor (2-0), SMU (3-0) and Georgia (4-1)… in their last match, the Cougars tied South Carolina, 1-1… head coach Bill Solberg is in his third season at Houston… they wrap up the weekend with a Sunday afternoon match at Marquette… the series: Houston has won all four matches the series, outscoring DePaul, 7-2… Friday is the fourth meeting at Wish Field… a year ago, Houston won, 1-0, in Chicago on Sept. 27.

 

TCU – TCU enters the weekend at 2-3-1… the Horned Frogs play at Cincinnati on Friday… junior forward Amy Van Zandt leads the Horned Frogs with five points on two goals and as assist… the team has posted wins over Centenary (2-0) and Texas Tech (1-0, OT)… they have lost three matches to Texas A&M (6-0), SMU (4-2) and Baylor (4-0) while playing to a 1-1 tie with Oklahoma… head coach David Rubinson is in his 17th season in Forth Worth… the series: TCU won the only meeting between the two programs, 2-0, on Sept. 30, 2001… Sunday is the first meeting at Wish Field.

 

Looking Forward

DePaul plays the first of six straight road matches on Sept. 26 at Memphis.  Following the Memphis match, the Blue Demons move on to UAB two days later.  In two weeks, the club heads west for matches at Air Force and Colorado College.  The road trip ends with C-USA games at Charlotte and East Carolina the weekend of Oct. 10.
