Julianne Sitch Named C-USA Player of the Week
CHICAGO – Conference USA Preseason Player of the Year and Hermann Trophy candidate Julianne Sitch was named the league’s offensive player of the week after totaling three goals in victories over Northern Iowa and Marquette.
On Friday, she scored the first two goals of the match in a 6-1 win over Northern Iowa and followed that up with the first goal against Marquette. She tallied game-winners in both matches while the Blue Demons finished the weekend with nine team goals.
Sitch has scored a goal in three straight matches and in five of the last six games. She has also recorded at least a goal or an assist in seven of the eight Blue Demon games this season. This is her first C-USA weekly honor this season after winning it three times in 2003.
The Blue Demons scored nine goals in two matches over the weekend, the most in back-to-back games in the program’s history. Their six scores on Friday against Northern Iowa tied a school record set on Sept. 5 against Liberty. The 25 total goals through eight matches are also the highest total to start a season. In the last two seasons, the club has started each year with 14 goals in the first eight games. The single-season team scoring record is 33 goals set last year.
DePaul goes on the road this weekend for a pair of C-USA matches. The Blue Demons travel to Memphis for a Friday night game before playing at Saint Louis on Sunday afternoon.
