CHICAGO – The DePaul women’s soccer team kicks off BIG EAST play on Saturday as the Blue Demons welcome Seton Hall to Wish Field for a noon match.
DePaul (4-5) looks to defend its share of the BIG EAST regular season title from 2016 where the Blue Demons posted a 7-2 mark in conference play. The Blue Demons are aiming to bounce back into the win column on Saturday after falling short to Loyola last Sunday.
Through nine matches, DePaul has outscored its opponents 14-9 where all four wins have come via shutouts. Junior Franny Cerny continues to lead DePaul in scoring as the forward has scored on five occasions. Seniors Elizabeth Endy, Lucy Edwards, and Lauren Frasca have anchored DePaul’s defensive approach while classmate Alexa Ben has been an effective scorer and distributor, tallying four goals and an assist in 2017.
Seton Hall is in search of its first win of 2017 as the Pirates carry a 0-6-2 record into Saturday’s meeting with DePaul. In their last time on the pitch, the Pirates were shutout by Harvard in a 3-0 loss. Previously, Seton Hall tied with Duquesne in a 1-1 double-overtime thriller.
Five separate Pirates have netted goals this season for Seton Hall where junior Julia Stirpe leads the squad with three points. Stirpe is joined by Cassy Harrigan, Atley Fortney, Lauren Hall, and Siobhan McGovern in the goals category. In goal, junior Anna Maclean has logged 764 minutes in eight matches, making 33 saves while allowing 15 goals. Maclean carries a 1.77 goals against average in 2017.
DePaul, which has won the last five meeting against the Pirates, leads the all-time series with Seton Hall 8-2-2. The Blue Demons are undefeated at Wish Field, posting a 5-0-1 mark against the Pirates.
First touch from Wish Field is slated for 12 p.m. live via the BIG EAST Digital Network.
