Blue Demons Host C-USA Members Charlotte and South Florida This Weekend



The DePaul women's soccer team takes on a pair of Conference USA opponents this weekend at Wish Field. On Friday, September 29, Charlotte comes to Chicago and the Blue Demons host South Florida on Sunday, October 1.

THE BLUE DEMONS
DePaul stands at 3-6 overall and 2-2 in the league. The Blue Demons split a pair of conference road matches last weekend.

Since starting the season 0-4, the Blue Demons have won three of the last five matches. They have tallied 10 goals over that span compared to just two scores in the first four matches.

Eight different players have scored a goal for DePaul. Jeannette Croce, Courtney Hannel and Tammy Howe have scored two goals each for the Blue Demons. Christy Young leads the club with three assists.

Goalkeepers Lauren Geiger and Marissa Czapka have a combined 1.89 goals against average and 69 saves in nine matches.

THE OPPONENTS
Friday's opponent, Charlotte, enters the weekend at 6-5-1 overall. The 49ers are 3-0-1 in C-USA and tied Saint Louis and defeated Houston last weekend. They are led by senior Jill Currie with five goals and eight assists. Charlotte leads the all-time series, 3-0-1.

South Florida begins the weekend at 2-1-1 in Conference USA and 3-4-1 overall. Prior to playing DePaul, the Bulls will be at Marquette on Friday. South Florida leads the all-time series, 3-0-1.

LAST TIME OUT
The Blue Demons split a pair of C-USA road matches last weekend. They lost 2-0 on Friday night at Memphis before winning 3-1 at UAB on Sunday.

In Memphis, the Blue Demons were shutout for the first time since Aug. 27. The Tigers outshot DePaul 21-2 and used two second-half goals for the win.

At UAB, the Blue Demons took advantage of an own goal in the first half in the 3-1 victory. Jeannette Croce and Amber Prindle scored in the second half.

IN THE CLASSROOM
The Blue Demons were honored by Conference USA prior to the season for having the highest team GPA during the 1999-2000 school year. DePaul was tied with Southern Miss with a team GPA of 3.34.

In addition to receiving league honors, the NSCAA awarded the Blue Demons with the Team Academic Award.
