DePaul Readies for Two BIG EAST Tests

CHICAGO – After two BIG EAST Conference contests on the road last week, the DePaul women’s soccer team returns to Wish Field this weekend for a noon match on Friday against Rutgers and a 1 p.m. match on Sunday against Seton Hall.
The Blue Demons (7-6-1, 2-3 BIG EAST) are coming off two losses in conference action as they fell to Connecticut last Friday and Providence on Monday afternoon. DePaul currently sits a 2-3 in BIG EAST Conference play, with its two wins coming in a 1-0 victory over Cincinnati and a 4-0 rout of Pittsburgh.
The Blue Demons stand in fifth in the BIG EAST National division, behind Georgetown, Notre Dame, Villanova, and Louisville.In BIG EAST statistical categories, DePaul goalkeeper Megan Pyrz currently ranks third in both save percentage (.829) and saves (58). DePaul’s offense is led by junior captain Ashleigh Goddard who has amassed eight points so far this season including three goals.
Kickoff for Friday’s contest is scheduled for noon in Lincoln Park. Rutgers currently sits at 8-6-0 overall and 1-5 in league play. The Scarlet Knights are led by Jonelle Filigno who has registered nine goals this season. Filigno is also a member of the Canadian Women’s National Team.
Sunday’s match against Seton Hall is set for 1 p.m. The Pirates sit at 6-8 overall and 5-2 in BIG EAST action on the season.
