Blue Demons Host Rutgers and Seton Hall
DePaul vs. Rutgers DePaul vs. Seton Hall Weekly Notes | Demons Live CHICAGO - The DePaul women’s soccer team closes the home portion of the 2006 regular season with matches against Rutgers and Seton Hall at Wish Field. The Blue Demons and Scarlet Knights duel at 3 p.m. on Friday before the home finale and Senior Day on Sunday with a 1 p.m. match against the Pirates. DePaul finishes the regular-season slate four straight road matches starting on Oct. 13 at Providence. Noting the Blue Demons: The Blue Demons are on a season-high six-match losing streak... during the slide, the team has been outscored, 17-1... prior to the recent defeats, the six goals scored in two games against Southeast Missouri State and Northern Illinois were the most in back-to-back games since seven goals in Oct. 2004… the Blue Demons posted a 3-0 win over TCU on Oct. 17 and a 4-0 victory against Cleveland State on Oct. 22… the six-gamer is the longest losing streak since a nine-game slide during the 2001 season... Cara LaRocca’s 98 saves this season (12 matches) surpassed her career total entering this season (61 saves/18 matches)… LaRocca’s 12 saves at Drake on Sept. 3 were a career best passing her previous high of 11 stops against Northwestern at the start of this season... she has totaled at least seven stops in nine of 12 matches this season... Lauren Spacht’s goal at Northern Illinois on Sept. 10 moved her into sole possession of second all-time with 15 career goals… at Eastern Illinois on Sept. 1, she moved into second all-time with her 38th career point... Spacht has totaled 38 points on 14 goals and 10 assists in her career... Julianne Sitch (2002-05) leads all career categories with 90 points on 32 goals and 26 assists... Alissa VonderHaar’s two-goal game against Southeast Missouri State was the second of her career... it was also the first by a DePaul player this season... Jennifer Dyer scored goals in each of DePaul’s first two matches... she added her third goals of the season against Cincinnati and is now tied for seventh all-time in DePaul with nine career goals... Lea Hill, VonderHaar and Dyer lead the club with three assists each... Hill is now tied for fourth in school history with nine career helpers... the 2006 season is the 11th year of women’s soccer as a varsity sport at DePaul University... in his seventh season, head coach John Wilson returns 14 players and eight starters from a year ago... DePaul is scheduled to play 18 regular-season matches with 10 games at Wish Field in 2006... the Blue Demons are 19-11-1 in the last three-plus seasons in matches at Wish Field. New Addition: Former DePaul softball player Sara Bandauski recently joined the women’s soccer program as a goalkeeper. In four seasons on the diamond she played in 219 games with the softball team totaling a career .216 batting average with 46 runs, 29 RBI’s and eight doubles. Scouting Rutgers: The Scarlet Knights are off to the best start in programs history at 10-1-1 overall and 4-0-1 in BIG EAST play... Rutgers has totaled eight shutouts this season while outscoring opponents, 26-4... since a 1-0 loss to Stanford on Sept. 8, the Scarlet Knights are 7-0-1, including BIG EAST wins last weekend over Marquette and USF... Alicia Hall leads the team with 13 points on six goals and an assist while Gina DeMaio has totaled 12 points on four goals and four assists... head coach Glenn Crooks is in his seventh season at Rutgers. The Series: Friday is the second meeting between the two programs.... DePaul claimed a 1-0 decision at Rutgers in the first meeting last season. Checking on Seton Hall: The Pirates play at Notre Dame on Friday night... they enter the weekend at 6-5-1 overall and 2-2-1 in league play... Seton Hall in unbeaten in their last three matches with wins over Georgetown and USF followed by a 1-1 tie against Marquette... Katie Herr leads the team with 10 points on five goals... goalkeeper Amanda Becker holds a 0.89 goals against average with 60 saves in 1108 minutes... head coach Betty Ann Kempf-Townsley is in her 13th season and is the only coach in program history. The Series: Sunday is the second all-time game between the Blue Demons and Pirates... the two clubs played to a 2-2 tie last season at Seton Hall. Previously: West Virginia (Oct. 1) - Deana Everrett tallied a first-half hat trick to lead the Mountaineers to a 4-0 win over the Blue Demons at Wish Field. She scored goals in the 16th, 26th and 44th minutes followed by a Lisa DuCote goal at 70:09. West Virginia outshot DePaul, 28-8, while Cara LaRocca finished the match with 11 saves. Pittsburgh (Sept. 29) - A goal in the first 10 minutes was enough for visiting Pittsburgh in a 1-0 decision over the Blue Demons. DePaul outshot the Panthers, 16-01, but couldn’t find the net. Louisville (Sept. 26) - The Blue Demons and Cardinals played their rescheduled match on Tuesday afternoon after the originally scheduled game on Sept. 22 was postponed due to inclement weather. The Cardinals scored two goals in the first half and added a third in the 69th minute. Louisville outshot DePaul, 17-10, while Cara LaRocca finished the game with seven saves. Cincinnati (Sept. 24) - The visiting Bearcats broke a 1-1 tie with goals in the 77th and 79th minute while outshooting the Blue Demons, 20-9. Lauren Spacht assisted Jennifer Dyer’s goal at 52:23 to tie the match at 1-1. Cincinnati answered with a pair of long goals from 20 and 35 yards for the 3-1 decision. Loyola-Chicago (Sept. 19) - After postponing the match on Sept. 17, the two teams squared off at Wish Field on Sept. 19. The Ramblers scored the game’s only goal in the 82nd minute with a 20-yard shot from Katie Heidenreich. The Ramblers outshot the Blue Demons, 20-8, while Cara LaRocca totaled seven saves. Notre Dame (Sept. 15) - The top-ranked Irish scored four second-half goals in a 5-0 win over DePaul. Notre Dame attempted 31 shots while holding DePaul to just two attempts. Cara LaRocca finished the match with 10 saves. Northern Illinois (Sept. 10) - The action started early with the matches five goals scored in the first half. Following a Northern Illinois goal in the sixth minute, Lauren Spacht tallied her second score of the season at 22:29 followed by Stefanie Foley’s first career goal at 33:42. Just before halftime, NIU tied the match at 43:52 before Kelly DeBaene knocked in the game-winner on a 30-yarder at 44:10. Cara LaRocca finished the afternoon with eight saves as DePaul was outshot, 16-15. Southeast Missouri State (Sept. 8) - Two goals by Alissa VonderHaar and another by Lea Hill gave the Blue Demons a 3-0 lead 60 minutes into the match. The Redhawks answered with two scores, but couldn’t find a equalizer. Cara LaRocca finished the game with 10 saves, including nine in the second half. Drake (Sept. 3) - Drake broke a scoreless tie with the game-winner in the 88th minute. The Bulldogs outshot the Blue Demons, 15-9, while DePaul goalkeeper Cara LaRocca finished with a dozen saves. Eastern Illinois (Sept. 1) - Lauren Spacht scored her first goal of the season to give the Blue Demons a lead 88 seconds into the match. The Panthers tied the match in the 62nd minute and neither team could find the net over the remainder of the match. DePaul outshot Eastern Illinois, 16-12, in the match. Eastern Washington (Aug. 27) - Jennifer Dyer and Shannon Williams scored first-half goals for DePaul while Cara LaRocca notched her first shutout of the season. Dyer tallied the eventual game-winner in the 32nd minute followed by Williams in the 43rd minute. The Blue Demons outshot the Eagles, 25-7, while LaRocca made five save. Northwestern (Aug. 25) - DePaul opened the season with a 2-1 loss at Wish Field. Jennifer Dyer scored in the 83rd minute while Cara LaRocca finished with a career-high 11 saves. The Blue Demons were outshot, 20-5, and Northwestern attempted 16 corner kicks. Looking Forward: The four-match road trip starts at Providence on Oct. 13. DePaul finishes next weekend at Connecticut on Oct. 15. The final regular-season weekend has the Blue Demons at Georgetown on Oct. 20 and Villanova on Oct. 22. 2006 BIG EAST Championship: The semifinals and championship of the 2006 BIG EAST Women’s Soccer Championship will take place in Storrs, Conn., on the campus of the University of Connecticut. The first round and quarterfinals matches will be hosted by the higher-seeded team beginning on Oct. 25. The champion receives the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Championship.
