Women's Soccer Travels to Valparaiso

The DePaul women's soccer team plays its first match in eight days on Tuesday when they travel to Valparaiso. The Crusaders will be the final non-conference opponent for the Blue Demons and the first of three matches over the next six days. This weekend, DePaul will host Saint Louis and Houston in Conference USA matches.

THE BLUE DEMONS
DePaul has looks to snap a two-match losing streak on Tuesday. Two weekends ago, the Blue Demons lost to Charlotte and South Florida by identical scores of 2-0. Overall, DePaul is 3-8 while posting a 2-4 mark in Conference USA matches. The Blue Demons currently stand in ninth place in the league standings. The top nine teams advance to the league tournament.

Eight different players have scored for DePaul this season led by Jeannette Croce, Tammy Howe and Courtney Hannel with two goals each. Christy Young leads the team with three assists while scoring a single goal. Goalkeepers Marissa Czapka and Lauren Geiger have a combined 1.91 goals against average with 80 saves in 11 matches.

SCOUTING VALPARISO
The Crusaders have won five straight matches and are 6-5 overall. They defeated Oral Roberts, 3-1, in their last match on Saturday. In Mid-Continent Conference matches, Valparaiso owns a 2-0 record.

Head coach Stephen Anthony is in his third season with the Crusaders. Like DePaul, the women's soccer program at Valparaiso is young as they started playing in 1993. They are led by sophomore forward Lori Moore with 10 goals on the season. Goalkeeper Rose Holtkamp has allowed 19 goals in nine matches.

LOOKING AHEAD
The five remaining regular season matches for the DePaul will all be Conference USA opponents. This weekend the Blue Demons host Saint Louis and Houston. The final three matches will all be on the road as the Blue Demons travel to Tulane, Southern Miss and Marquette.

The top eight teams in the league at the end of the regular season will qualify for the Conference USA Tournament in St. Louis. The tourney will be held Nov. 1-4 at Robert R. Hermann Stadium on the campus of Saint Louis. Marquette is the defending champion.
