Women's Soccer Tops Rutgers 1-0

Box Score

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Lauren Spacht's goal in the first two and a half minutes of Sunday's BIG EAST soccer match was enough to push the DePaul women's team past Rutgers at Yurcak Field.

The Blue Demons struck early when Amy Witt redirected Julianne Sitch’s free kick to Spatch in the middle of the field five yards out.  Spatch found the goal for the first time this season to give DePaul (3-6-4, 1-3-3 BIG EAST) a 1-0 advantage and the only score of the match.

The Scarlet Knights had their best chance to even the game in the first half with seven minutes on the clock. Senior Danae Risoli free kick from 22 yards out was deflected DePaul keeper Cara LaRocca.  Following the shot, Rutgers aimed another towards the right post which was again deflected by a Blue Demon defender.

Sitch had a chance to put the Blue Demons up 2-0 in the second half but her shot from the left wing sailed into the hands of Scarlet Knight keeper Nora Crawford.  Crawford finished the match with one save.

Rutgers (4-9-1, 1-6 BIG EAST) out shot the Blue Demons 9-2 and had seven corner kicks.

LaRoca registered seven saves.

DePaul returns to Wish Field on Oct. 14 for the first of four straight home matches. Providence opens the season-ending homestand followed by Connecticut on Oct. 16. The final weekend of the regular season has Georgetown and Villanova visiting Wish Field for the first time.
